A Testing Proposition is a high-difficulty Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII side-quest which needs your immediate attention the moment you enter Yusnaan, because it features multiple steps, but it also has a high payout.
A Testing Proposition doesn’t have specific requirements, meaning that you can complete it as soon as you finish the first main quest in Yusnaan, at any hour; however, it requires your presence is three areas: Luxerion, Yusnaan and The Wildlands.
Since A Testing Proposition is a 3 stars side quest, you should expect to receive bigger rewards, and the following guide provides information on how to finish the side-quest faster, and how to claim all associated prizes.
Description: “In the Champion’s Quarter, next to the battle arena, Lightning meets a potion-peddling alchemist called Velno who makes an interesting proposition. Velno has made a fortifying tincture by mixing two deadly poisons, and she wants Lightning to test it out. It sounds dangerous but the potion might prove useful in battle. Hint: You must free up a slot for the potion in the recovery items inventory.”
Rewards: 3500 Gil, Maximum HP + 120, Strength + 8, Magic + 12, Scholar’s Mortarboard Adornment
The first step you have to take is to find the quest-giver for A Testing Proposition.
When you enter Yusnaan, open your map and notice the westernmost round area known as The Slaughterhouse, or the arena.
It is located SW from the Glutton’s Quarter, and you should visit it. While standing near the arena’s entrance, on the left side you should see a kiosk and inside it Velno. Velno wears a white hat, a pair of strange glasses and she has green hair.
Before talking to her, sell or drop one of the potions in your inventory. Next, let Lightning talk to the alchemist and pay attention to what she says. At the end of the dialogue, you will receive a potion and you will be asked to test it during a fight. It is the first step in A Testing Proposition side-quest, and the most accessible.
With the Nektar in your inventory, try to find an opponent nearby. It can be any creature. The closest are those in the arena, but if the Slaughterhouse is closed, you can opt for the Flanitors and the guards on the streets.
Attack one of the guards and during the battle, open your inventory and drink the Nektar you received from Velno. Once you win the battle, get back to Velno to start the second phase of the quest for which you will receive Nektar MK II.
The second phase is more challenging than the first one, because you have to drink the Nektar MK II, while being poisoned.
At this point you have several options. You can return to Luxerion and look for a Gorgonopsid in Pilgrim’s Causeway, or you can wait to enter the Wastelands. If you pick the second option, you have to look for a Triffid.
It is a common creature that looks like flower and it will attack you during the night in the Grasslands sub-area. Try to fight as many as you can and make sure that you drink the second Nektar only when you Lightning is poisoned.
Note: The enemies in the game have different tactics, and not all Triffids will cast poison, which means that you may have to fight more than one. Don’t drink the Nektar unless poisoned, because you must return to Velno and get a second sample. To see if Lightning has been poisoned look for a red square with two bubbles inside it, above Lightning’s ATB bar.
Now, that you have tested the second sample, it is time to go back to Velno and tell her how it worked. As a result you will receive a third sample named Mirakle Nektar, and you will be sent to test it while plagued with 3 or more status ailments.
Again, you will have to wait until you can access the Rocky Crag in The Wildlands. If your Chocobo is fully healed; go to the Rocky Crag during the night and look for a Hanuman. The Hanuman is a creature similar to Vali but more powerful.
It looks like a monkey.
While fighting it, wait for the Hanuman to cast 3 debuffs on Lightning then drink the third Nektar.
Note: According to Velno you don’t have to fight a single creature to get all debuffs. You can also use the Mirakle Nektar while fighting a group of enemies, as long as they debuff Lightning 3 times, and all debuffs affect her at the same time.
Now, return to Velno to start the final phase of the quest, for which you will receive the Nektar Of The Gods.
Fortunately, you don’t have to travel to other areas, because you have to use the Nektar Of The Gods while fighting a random enemy. Hence, enter a fight in The Slaughterhouse and use the Nektar Of The Gods on Lightning.
When you complete the battle, go back to Velno to claim your rewards, but make sure you have an empty slot in your inventory because you will also receive Nektar Of The Gods Omega.
