Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Mayan Stelae are side activities that can be completed during the game, in order to unlock a unique outfit for Edward Kenway.
The Mayan Outfit requires you to complete all Mayan Stelae puzzles. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag includes 16 Mayan Stelae, and the following guide explains how to complete all of them.
After the final Mayan Stela puzzle is finished, you can retrieve the Mayan Outfit which appears in Tulum. Even though the Mayan Stelae are introduced when you reach Great Inagua, you can find the first one the moment you start the game, in Cape Bonavista; which, means that you don’t have to follow a specific order when you try to complete these puzzles. A
Mayan Stela puzzle is triggered by finding specific pillars on your map. Their locations, as all collectibles and side-activities, appear on your main-map the moment you synchronize a viewpoint nearby. When you travel to the location of a Mayan Stela you will find a pillar made of stone on which you can climb.
While standing on top of it, press the corresponding button to start the puzzle. After you complete it, look for a green dot on the ground that shows where you can locate a hidden Mayan Stone.
Since there are 16 Mayan Stelae in the game, you will have to collect 16 Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Mayan Stones. The stones are buried, and you will have to dig in order to collect them.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Mayan Stelae Locations Guide
Total number of Mayan Stelae: 16
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Cape Bonavista Mayan Stela
Being the first puzzle in the video game, you will notice that it is quite accessible. Using the thumbsticks rotate the shape on the ground and place the circles on top of the highlighted stones. Make sure that they are perfectly aligned and that the largest circle is on top of the biggest stone.
The rest of them will align automatically. Once you complete the puzzle, look around and you will see a green dot close to the pillar you are standing on. Get to the marked spot and dig to find the Mayan Stone.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Great Inagua Mayan Stela
The Great Inagua Mayan Stela is a side-activity you will complete while following one of the game’s main missions, helped by Kidd. The puzzle is similar to the previous one, but this time you will also have to pay attention to the shapes.
The largest rectangle must be placed on the stone to the left, followed by the small circle, on the stone to the right. The third shape will be aligned automatically.
After you solve the puzzle, descend the pillar, and look for the digging spot, next to a bush nearby.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Tulum Mayan Stela

To solve it, make sure that the line without a circle is pointing towards the bushes on the right side of the road.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Isla Providencia Mayan Stela #1
After you unlock Isla Providencia you can complete two Mayan Stelae puzzles, the first one being on the western coast.
Similar to the previous puzzle, to solve the first Mayan Stela on Isla Providencia, align the shape, so that the line without a circle is pointing to the large tree on the right side.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Isla Providencia Mayan Stela #2
The second Mayan Stela on Isla Providencia is located on the eastern coast. After you trigger the puzzle, you will notice that the shape is similar to a cross.
To solve the puzzle, you will have to align the shortest line of the cross so that it points to the large tree on your left side and the largest bush on the right side.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Misteriosa Mayan Stela #1
On the island known as Misteriosa, you will be able to solve two additional puzzles. The first one is above the docks, and it features three circles.
To complete the puzzle, the largest circle must be aligned on the haystack, and the rest of them will align automatically.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Misteriosa Mayan Stela #2

The digging spot is close to the large wall in front of you.

Place the rectangle on the downed column on the left side of the path, to complete the puzzle.

One of the circles has a line close to it, and it must be placed on the large tree on the left side.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag New Bone Mayan Stela
On the island known as New Bone you will find another Mayan Stela, west from the storehouse. The puzzle includes multiple shapes, but one of them is similar to an arrow.
Place the arrow’s tail (4 rectangles) on the stairs below you, so that the head of the arrow is pointing to the forest in the distance.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Tortuga Mayan Stela
The Mayan Stela on Tortuga is located in the north-western side of the island. When you trigger the puzzle, you will see three circles and three lines.
The line without a circle at one end, must point towards the ocean.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Santanillas Mayan Stela #1
The small island of Santanillas is another location featuring two Mayan Stelae. The first one is located on the eastern coast (right) and it features a shape similar to a triangle.
To solve the riddle, make sure that the triangle’s top angle (the lines form a small V), is pointing towards the ocean.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Santanillas Mayan Stela #2
The second Stela on Santanillas is on the northern coast, and the puzzle is similar to the first one, but to solve it, the triangle’s top angle must point towards you.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Long Bay Mayan Stela
The final Mayan Stela is in Long Bay. The puzzle includes four squares, and the largest one must be placed on the first block on your right side (close to the highlighted bush).
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Mayan Outfit
After you collect all Mayan Stones you will be able to retrieve a new outfit for Edward.
The Mayan costume requires you to travel to Tulum, and its location will be marked on your map. Fast-travel to the view-point located close to the icon which displays the location of the outfit.
While standing on top of the viewpoint, look below and you will see a larger area similar to an arena. Make sure you get to the said arena, and look around you to locate some stairs.
Head up and turn left, then turn right to enter through a door (before reaching the haystack). Continue to follow the tunnel to the right and you will enter the secret room where the Mayan Outfit is located.
Above is a video walkthrough that can be used to learn how to get the Mayan Outfit and how to solve all AC4 Mayan Stelae Puzzles.
